I ran across this press photo and thought that the patch collectors would enjoy seeing it.  It is undated. 

 

The caption states:  "Mrs. Carey B. Wise and M/Sgt. Carl Wilson of the California State Guard show a colorful collection of shoulder patches from other states which have organized state guards.  The collection is a feature of the recruiting drive by Sacramento State Guard, Co. A, 3rd Battalion, 24th Regiment and is attracting attention in a downtown store."
