Wow, the only thing I see different is the skull, it's a little different then other skulls. But. 2,800 to much. I assuming Aussie made?

From my somewhat limited knowledge of these, I would say it is Aussie made. When you see them and the base back of the the patch is the felted wool and only the design is embroidered (and it has some to do with the actual embroidery style) - you can pretty much tell it is Aussie made. I've made a bunch of repros of these Aussie-style Raider patches, and every model I've used has had the skull embroidered that way.

I seen these referred to as New Zealand ? made in the past but never confirmed it. Saw one other in a group that was part of a group that was split.

I think this was worn on a uniform at one time I acquired in a group and the only version I had seen of this patch at the time.

A perfect example of "What's it Worth" what ever some one is willing to pay...I hope there happy with there purchase.

An original sold on an unnamed uniform last year for $500 (which was cheap IMO).

Rare but not impossible. I would think the value would be in the $1000/$1200 range.

I guess this person just had to have it. The beauty of auctions I guess.

Hi, I'm new to the forum. My dad was a Marine who served in the early 60s and became an avid collector. I am slowly going through his collection and occasionally come across items I have difficulty identifying and/or being able to discern repro vs. original. I recently came across this vintage looking bullion patch. The research I've done led me to believe it may be associated with the US Marine Raiders - WWII era? The WWII US Marine Corps Raider Shoulder Sleeve Insignia A Brief Historical Study by J. Doug Bailey shows a similar image (Fig. 26) but it was a paper sticker. Any thoughts and insight would be appreciated.

Ive never seen this patch but it looks significant and really deserves its own thread.

Thank you @manayunkman - I've heard from a collector who specializes in WWII patches and he says it is a "fantasy patch" that was made in Pakistan. I don't know much about fantasy patches, but didn't come across one like this in my research, so I will take your advice and start a separate thread.
