Owen Posted March 10, 2021 Share #1 Posted March 10, 2021 Has anyone else noticed a certain eBay seller that has a seemingly endless supply of bullion USN wings? I've bought a couple with patterns I've not seen before. I began to monitor his auctions. Now, shortly after an auction closes, another of the same design wing pops up shortly thereafter. All the guy's feedback is positive. Am I being paranoid ? Has anyone else noticed this? B-17Guy Posted March 11, 2021 Share #2 Posted March 11, 2021 I have bought a few wings from him. I guess it all depends on which items you are specifically looking at, but I have bought two metal and two bullion wings and am very happy with them. Seems to be selling off a large USN collection. trenchbuff Posted March 11, 2021 Share #3 Posted March 11, 2021 Owen, Is there a problem with what you've purchased?
Owen Posted March 11, 2021 Author Share #4 Posted March 11, 2021 I have bought pieces which I suspect. As I tried to explain in my initial post, when I purchase a pristine bullion wing that is a pattern I've not seen before (I didn't start collecting yesterday), and the seller soon has another example, equally pristine, up for bid, it gives me pause. When the same seller has bullion example after example up over and over, it also makes me wonder.
The Rooster Posted March 11, 2021 Share #5 Posted March 11, 2021 Do they look fake? Or just new looking ? Could be.... guessing.... The seller has access to NOS Bullion wings ???
Dave Posted March 11, 2021 Share #6 Posted March 11, 2021 Is there a photo in this thread that's not popping up?
Dave Posted March 11, 2021 Share #7 Posted March 11, 2021 Would you mind posting a link to the auction? I've tried to find the seller and this is what I see:
Owen Posted March 11, 2021 Author Share #8 Posted March 11, 2021 This is what I can get to post when I highlight the current auctions from seller ibiman. At this time there are only four bullion wings listed. The majority shown mare metal. Items for sale by lbiman | eBay
Dave Posted March 11, 2021 Share #9 Posted March 11, 2021 Finally got it to work. Here's a link to his auctions: https://www.ebay.com/sch/lbiman/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ipg=&_from=
The Rooster Posted March 11, 2021 Share #10 Posted March 11, 2021 I just looked at the Navy Bullion wings this seller has for sale and I personally dont see anything that gives me pause. They appear genuine. I cannot say anything about the Observer Bullion wing as I have never seen one before. But two of the pilot wings look like they came off of coats and the square one is just one that was never sewn on. Never used.
Dave Posted March 11, 2021 Share #11 Posted March 11, 2021 Looing at their completed auctions, it looks like they've sold some great wings: https://www.ebay.com/sch/lbiman/m.html?_nkw&_armrs=1&_ipg&_from&LH_Complete=1&rt=nc&_trksid=p2046732.m1684 I don't have any issues with them. Do keep in mind that bullion wings were worn well past WW2, switching first to the green background and back to black. When I was getting new uniforms tailored back in 2003, the shop sold bullion wings (as well as bullion hat devices) that were wearable at the time (there were a lot of cool options back then...I had 5/8 inch ribbons made as well, and bought a brand new hat that had the wicker hat band...I think most of the people who did those "artisan" things have sadly gone out of business...) The Rooster Posted March 11, 2021 Share #12 Posted March 11, 2021 He does have some insanely priced wings. And not in a crazy eddie his prices are insane in a good way. I see some way over priced Amico Navy observer wings. Also the navy surgeon wing Meyer ... pin looks wrong. And the Navy Cap Badge looks to be Post WW2
Dave Posted March 11, 2021 Share #13 Posted March 11, 2021 They certainly have sold a lot of wings. I don't see any that look bad though...
Dave Posted March 11, 2021 Share #14 Posted March 11, 2021 This is the only one that might be postwar, at least to my eyes. But it seems that the market thought that as well...pretty much a bargain either way.
trenchbuff Posted March 11, 2021 Share #15 Posted March 11, 2021 Looks to be selling a lot of NOS from a large collection.
