GreenStar67 Posted March 4, 2021 Share #1 Posted March 4, 2021 I picked this bag up a few years ago at garage sale and need some help with it - marked "M. A. GRUNSTEIN" on one side and "U.S. ARMY 15217878" on the opposite side, has nice stitched leather reinforced cotton web handles. Measures roughly 17" long by 7-1/2" 7" tall - condition is really good, no holes. The bottom has some additional material that is thicker to keep it relatively flat. The zipper is metal and marked "TALON" I'm thinking that the number is his service number but not sure. Anyone have any idea what this style bag was used for? Reminds me of gym bags I had when I was a kid but a little smaller? Anyone have any idea who M. A. GRUNSTEIN was? I think it looks to be WW2 but maybe Korea vintage? Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

GreenStar67 Posted March 4, 2021 Author Share #6 Posted March 4, 2021 Wow, that is a lot of information. Thank you so much! I live about one hour North of Akron so that bag didn't move to far from home. Interesting the date on his registration is October 1st 1945, and the NARA says enlistment May 7, 1946 both are after the war ended but his grave says he served WW2? Also interesting he enlisted in the Panama Canal Department.

Yes, that is curious that both his registration and enlistment dates are after the end of WWII but yet his grave info shows WWII. Interesting...
