WWII Bronze Star Medal with an Interesting Recipient! 

 

Awarded to a British Army Officer for his service in Italy.

Judging by the citation he should have rated a higher award. I wonder if he received one from the UK?

Fascinating.

 

I am reading Winston S. Churchill's 6 volume History of World War II, and I just finished the section about the Allied armies in nothern Italy.  Many British units were attached to American forces.

This is a really cool and interesting award!

 

He's listed in the London Gazette in August 1944 as having been Mentioned In Despatches which would grant him a bronze oak leaf to wear on his War Medal ribbon. I don't see any other award listings for him though. Note I'm on mobile so it's a bit difficult to use the Gazette Archives site.

You'd think so, but the British could be stingy with their awards. I agree with you. You'd think he'd have rated at least a Silver Star for this action.
