Indexred Posted March 3, 2021 Share #1 Posted March 3, 2021 Does anybody know what collar insignia (if any) was worn by officer candidates during WWII? I ask because I recently saw a 1943 photo of two candidates, and neither man wore collar insignia on his service coat. The pair were attending OCS at Fort Knox. Reforger Posted May 3, 2021 Share #3 Posted May 3, 2021 I assume no branch insignia was worn until graduation. If at all I would imagine it would have been the unassigned branch insignia (immaterial), but I don't think they wore anything. If you check image number 9 (Australia) on the following link, you will see a 2nd Lt graduating and he has no branch insignia and is just receiving his rank insignia upon graduation. https://history.army.mil/photos/WWII/ErlyYrs/WW2-ErlYrs.htm The next photo also shows OCS candidates without branch insignia. https://prometheus.med.utah.edu/~bwjones/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/OCS-graduation.jpg
Indexred Posted May 3, 2021 Author Share #4 Posted May 3, 2021 Thanks Reforger. That’s what I was thinking; OCS candidates often wore no insignia. I see two candidates in one of the photos wearing OCS insignia on their left breast pockets but nothing else. That appear to b the most that was worn but often not even that.
