5thwingmarty Posted March 1, 2021 Share #1 Posted March 1, 2021 This one just arrived today. I knew J/O Naval Aviators were not very common, but I didn't realize unpierced ones were so uncommon. It is my understanding that most of them are pierced between the flukes and the shield, and the one on Bob's website is also pierced between the rope and the center of the anchor. The similar H-H wings are pierced in these four spots along with the top eye of the anchor.
bschwartz Posted March 2, 2021 Share #2 Posted March 2, 2021 Great wing Marty. I don't recall ever seeing one that isn't pierced.
B-17Guy Posted March 2, 2021 Share #3 Posted March 2, 2021 Great wing Marty and very rare in my opinion. I have one in my collection with the same markings and until yours, mine was the only other one I had seen. Thanks for the post! John
5thwingmarty Posted March 2, 2021 Author Share #4 Posted March 2, 2021 Thanks guys. In trolling around after I found mine, I saw that Ron Burkey sold one and it is marked the same way as mine. I am curious how they made the pierced versions. Did they start like this one and then as a final step the holes were punched, or was it just a different rear pressing plate that punched the holes when the wing was pressed, or some other method?
