Eric Posted February 26, 2021 Share #1 Posted February 26, 2021 Received this theater made airborne tab today. Looks Italian made to me? Did it belong to a specific unit in this colours? Thank you
tredhed2 Posted February 26, 2021 Share #2 Posted February 26, 2021 Pretty rare for Italian made chain stitched patches - more likely Germany/France. Looks to have been worn w/ an Airborne Troop Carrier patch or 1st Allied Abn Army - the colors would be a good match and the backgrounds are darker/lighter depending on the patch. mortaydc60 Posted February 27, 2021 Share #3 Posted February 27, 2021 How about 517th and French made? Mort
Airborne-Hunter Posted February 27, 2021 Share #4 Posted February 27, 2021 I'd lean French made and more Southern France at that.
Airborne-Hunter Posted February 27, 2021 Share #5 Posted February 27, 2021 For reference, this is the 517th Mort references, as well as a 517th oval and a chainstitched cap patch. All of these are generally considered to have been made in Southern France.
Airborne-Hunter Posted February 27, 2021 Share #6 Posted February 27, 2021 Here's a 456th made in a very similar manner. I have always thought it to be made in France....but I don't know if this one has even been conclusively proven.
tredhed2 Posted February 27, 2021 Share #7 Posted February 27, 2021 I missed this one by a mile. The 2nd CMB participated in glider landings in Southern France for Operation Dragoon 15 Aug 14. At least I got the France part right.

Eric Posted February 27, 2021 Author Share #9 Posted February 27, 2021 Wonderful, thank you for the ID! The patch came from a French dealer.
