Early painted M1 helmet

I thought I should start showing off my collection. Here’s my early production M1 helmet, it has the early hawly liner and khaki chinstrap with fixed nails. The soldier who owned it was in Africa and Italy, the battalion insignia is on there but I don’t remember the number. There is a yellow circle which I assume is a sun. Might I add it’s a McCord manufacture.

Bill the patch, you are right but that was Pacific Theater only from pictures I’ve seen.

A lot of identical helmets to yours minus the white marking (yellow ball over blue/grey stripe) were actually used by naval construction battalions on DDay. I think your sailor may have been there as well. Here's mine identified to a 146th NCB guy who wore this on Omaha for reference

I have done some reading on the 146th CB battalion and turns out they were in Iceland before the invasion. Maybe the bear is in relation to that. I also contacted the See Bee museum to find out if they would happen to know any thing.

Just a point of reference, the yellow circle was used already in North Africa. It had different meanings in different areas for different events. Yes, it is maddening!

Standby friend. I’ll check

it’s a landing party one with a grey stripe. Not a yellow circle. I dunno rules about posting links and don’t want to blowup someone’s spot who may be bidding. Currently it’s $2900. I’m sure you can find it. I haven’t vetted it fully. Upon first glance looks ok but not interested (or have the scratch for that now. LOL)

I reached out to the SeeBee museum in North Kingstown RI, I went there before and they showed me a room with all documentations and stuff, so I reached out to them as well. They said there isn’t anything on the yellow circle or bear insignia but sent a pdf of where the 146th CB was and certain dates.
