manayunkman Posted February 22, 2021 Share #1 Posted February 22, 2021 What’s the story on these two? When were they made ?
jmpmstr Posted February 22, 2021 Share #2 Posted February 22, 2021 The knob-ish suspension ring is reminiscent of Studley strikes I’ve seen, however not having in hand, it’s hard to be posit. They appear to have the correct thickness and finish of a Studley. The badge tone quality of detail doesn’t appear to be a Davison made strike for Studley. For me, dating them is squishy. The brooch doesn’t present as ones I’ve seen on Studley in the past and looks remounted. The suspension rings look newer to me so I’d venture the strikes being 40s or later. The parts I can’t be sure in my limited experience with them. Larger brains than mine will likely have better and more detail for you. But that’s my $.
manayunkman Posted February 24, 2021 Author Share #3 Posted February 24, 2021 Thank you that’s great information. Were they made for collectors or issued?
jmpmstr Posted February 25, 2021 Share #4 Posted February 25, 2021 My understanding is they were made for private purchase for veterans as replacements for ones they may have lost etc. I’ve not heard of these strikes being authorized for issue or being issued.
