Today I would like to make a tribute to Sgt. Greg Alan Wilks. On October 24th, 1970, at 1240 hours, elements of Greg's company reacted to an attack on Fire Support Base Lynch, located 8 kms north of Ngai Giao. While maneuvering around the enemy, the company entered a mines field. Soon after, one of the company's Armored Personnel Carriers detonated a 20 pound mine. The infantry troops riding the APCs jumped off the tracks only to set off a chain of 8 bouncing betty mines killing multiple men in the company and wounding 17 others. Disregarding his own safety, Spec-4 Gregary Alan Wilks exposed himself to extreme danger to evacuate the wounded men. While moving one of his wounded comrades to safety, Greg detonated another mine, sustaining mortal wounds. For his selfless acts that day, Greg was posthumously promoted to Sergeant and was awarded the Bronze Star with "V" device for heroism in combat. Greg was a true American hero and his service to our country will never be forgotten. Because of his actions, many others were able to come home.

Special thanks to aznation, for helping me research Greg's service history.
