David B Posted February 17, 2021 #1 Posted February 17, 2021 Hi guys, I believe this is a Coast Guard Warrant Officer cap badge? It's marked sterling and the makers mark of Pancraft. I'm not familiar with this manufacturer at all, is it an uncommon maker? Also is the badge of WWII vintage? Many thanks in advance. Dave

Survivalman Posted February 13 #3 Posted February 13 That is in fact a USCG Warrant Officer cap device. After 1954's change to Warrant/Chief Warrant officer ranks it became the cap device for W-1. Coast Guard Warrant Officers continued to wear W-1 devices until 1967 when all Warrant Officer appointments were to Permanent W-1; Temporary CWO-2. For all intents and purposes, The W-1 uniform became obsolete at that point. USN Officers cap devise is essentially the same with an eagle perched atop the shield.
Survivalman Posted February 13 #4 Posted February 13 I have four original Warrant Officer devices, one from pre-1950 and three from the 1960s. I also have a replica bullion device set up on a combo cap w/1/4 gold chin strap.
