Honestly, I clicked on this topic, because I read the title, and wondered, “How in the heck did they fit that last name on there?”

 

I started medal collecting buying hand-engraved BSMs, so I’ve seen a bunch of them.  I have never seen one engraved in a circle like that, but an inclined to think it’s good.  The lettering looks absolutely right, it’s just in a layout that is out of the ordinary, due to the length of the last name.

 

I like it a lot.

+1   Doing the oversized "J" with a flourish makes aesthetic sense to fill the void in the center.   Cool medal, be fun to see another one out there where this engraver used the same Plan B.

You're welcome.  I looked on both newspapers.com and newspaperArchives.com for any articles on him and didn't come up with any.  Also Google searches yielded no results.
