The Rooster Posted February 8, 2021 Share #1 Posted February 8, 2021 Greetings, I picked up this Collins tonight. I dont know a lot about them but this one and its sheath look decent to me. All the examples of these, I have seen, are pitted looking like this example. Maybe they were Smooth when new ?
The Rooster Posted February 8, 2021 Author Share #2 Posted February 8, 2021 Im guessing all that pitting is from cleaned up rust ?
marysdad Posted February 8, 2021 Share #3 Posted February 8, 2021 My example has a similar finish. I don't know what they looked like when new. I don't know much about these. The Rooster Posted February 9, 2021 Author Share #6 Posted February 9, 2021 Nice one Thorin ! I read that both types were made concurrently. The green horn handles like yours and the ones like mine and that they were not used in the Spanish American war.
robinb Posted February 9, 2021 Share #7 Posted February 9, 2021 I have 3. The horn handle example has very clear markings. The top one is unmarked. Center has the rough finish and a very light maker stamp.

tankerman Posted February 19, 2021 Share #9 Posted February 19, 2021 I believe the top unmarked piece was made by FOSTER for Chatillon
The Rooster Posted February 19, 2021 Author Share #10 Posted February 19, 2021 Here is a new one that I picked up. Still waiting for it to arrive. I think it is unmarked. Seller listed it as a Philippine Bolo. But it looks to me to be an unmarked collins type 2 ? The blade looks nicer on this one. .......like the others shown above and the one in the drawing.
