From what I know they were used from late WW2 to Korea, possible even early Vietnam. We stopped using the M2 in the late 70s. Unforfortanly probably impossible to date with the markings and lot number not on it. If I had to guess, it is probably late WW2 or Korea era since that was when most of the production was done, I don't think they continued to manufacture them after Korea as there were surpluses of all rounds.

Another pickup today. It is all painted black. I don't suppose there is anyway of determining when it was made?

The key in identifying the era is the fin finish. If it looks like brownish lacquer ( which it does) it is Early WW2 fins. Not 100 percent sure but if greenish lacquer later WW2, black and phosphate post WW2.
