VIETNAM ERA M.P. HELMET HELP

Greetings All.

I found this interesting Vietnam Era M1 in a junk shop I occasionally visit.  It appears to be a, Vietnam era, Ingersoll manufactured helmet based on the shell lot/heat number of "1 8515".

The helmet has evidence of an earlier, more traditional, M.P. paint job under the subdued M.P. paint job.

Does anyone know where and when this style M.P. paint job would be used?

I recall seeing a picture with a very similar style but can't remember where I saw it!

Any help is appreciated.

Best regards.

Jim

From most of the photos I can find I believe covers to generally be worn in the field, best guess is it’s a training lid.  A close relative of mine was an MP in Vietnam, I’ll see if I can find any photos with a helmet similar to this.

And for the sake of it, here’s a 9th division soldier in Vietnam
