Barbasol Posted January 31, 2021 Share #1 Posted January 31, 2021 Today I saw this bayonet, but i could not tell if it is a reproduction, post-WWII, or an experimental bayonet. The scabbard looks like it is made like the ethocel canteen. Yoy can see right through it. Anyone seen this thing before? Thanks in advance. thorin6 Posted January 31, 2021 Share #3 Posted January 31, 2021 The scabbard body does not look correctly attached to the metal throat, neither like an original M7 or a shorten M3. While there were other makers that attempted to get a contract to produce the M3 scabbard mentioned in Gary Cunningham's (RIP) book, there is not much known about them. Misfit 45 Posted February 1, 2021 Share #4 Posted February 1, 2021 It's always possible that there is a connection with the Netherlands, but this bayonet and scabbard was never issued to US troops. It is interesting that the scabbard body has a VP mark. Marv
SKIPH Posted February 1, 2021 Share #5 Posted February 1, 2021 I think the scabbard was some type of salvage that was assembled backwards. The bayonet is without a doubt a repro . SKIP
Barbasol Posted February 1, 2021 Author Share #6 Posted February 1, 2021 Thank you all. The bayonet made no sense to me. The scabbard was odd-looking but because it has a VP mark on the front (?) it made me doubt what kind of type (era) this scabbard could be. 9th Infantry Manchu Posted February 1, 2021 Share #7 Posted February 1, 2021 I thought I recalled another post on translucent scabbard with marking on front:
sactroop Posted February 2, 2021 Share #8 Posted February 2, 2021 On all the victory mold marks I've seen on good products there have been two five-pointed stars amongst the V-P. With wear and repainting they can become hard to see, but I'd look for evidence of them.
