SARGE Posted January 21, 2021 Share #1 Posted January 21, 2021 OK Folks, it is that time of year again to show off your best finds of 2020. It does not have to be the most expensive or rarest edged weapon you found in 2020 but the one that you like the best. Perhaps the knife variation you have been looking for or the sword with the best documented history of the owner? What did you find in 2020? Here is mine. It is a current US Military Academy sword complete with the sword bag. Not a real rarity but I was happy to find it in minty condition.
sundance Posted January 21, 2021 Share #2 Posted January 21, 2021 Nice - Minty is right. I have a couple of those but nothing from West Point. One is from Manlius (I think that's the spelling) near Syracuse , NY. The other is anyone's guess. I do have a West Point ashtray though.
warguy Posted January 21, 2021 Share #3 Posted January 21, 2021 Thanks for starting this topic Sarge, I love seeing everyone's favorite finds, and that is a beautiful sword you have. For me it as a tie. Both of these have been shared earlier in the year on the forum, but what the heck. My first find way back at the start of the year was a nice Marine Mameluke named to a Second Lt who wore it as he led the Marine detachment on the USS Boston during the Battle of Manilla Bay. Every time I enter my war rom my eye gravitates to this one hanging on the wall. The second is a really clean USMC Raider stiletto. I wasn't really in the market for this one, it sot of fell in my lap and when I saw it, I felt I would probably not find one much better., so I bit the bullet. Here are some pics. I look forward to seeing others favorite finds. Kevin

SKIPH Posted January 21, 2021 Share #5 Posted January 21, 2021 Bought a few blades last year, but this was a real beauty. Mint WW2 Camillus M4. Love at first site. Can someone explain to me why my pics turn upside down. SKIP
thorin6 Posted January 21, 2021 Share #6 Posted January 21, 2021 Like Skip, I picked up some very interesting knives, but my favorite find of 2020 would be this Knife Crafters.
aznation Posted January 22, 2021 Share #7 Posted January 22, 2021 My favorites from last year would be these two. The first one I was told came from a WWII vet that lived in Hawaii and served in the Pacific. The darker handle material is supposedly water buffalo horn. I have no idea what the redish material is. It has a decorative brass guard and fittings. The sheath appears to be island native made. The one with the name on the knife blade shows the name Leroy R. Chubb who's from Pennsylvania and was in foreign service from Oct 1, 1944 through Nov 26, 1945. He was a Pfc with the 663rd Field Artillery. Misfit 45 Posted January 22, 2021 Share #11 Posted January 22, 2021 Hi Folks, Here's the best of 2020! It's a fairly common Camillus 1953 contract M4 bayonet. However, this one is not only "in the box mint", it is packaged as a box within a box. The bayonet still has the MRT anti-mildew crystals on the leather grip. Having spoken with Bill Walters, he says that this bayonet, in this packaging, is only the third one he has seen in all his years of collecting. Frank Trzaska had one like this for sale on his sale page last year. He got his from the Vince Coniglio collection. Marv

MattS Posted January 22, 2021 Share #13 Posted January 22, 2021 I think I found one 1943 dated M1 bayonet at a gun shop and 2 Camillus pocket knives in all of 2020, grand total of $100 spent. I ended up selling more blades while forcefully unemployed than I bought. Not a great year for collecting personally.

SARGE Posted January 22, 2021 Author Share #16 Posted January 22, 2021 Some really nice edged weapons! I love seeing what others have found myself. I also really like the accompanying accouterments for them. Scabbards, boxes, packaging, etc. add interest for me. What else did you find in 2020? mikedon Posted January 22, 2021 Share #17 Posted January 22, 2021 My favorite was a relatively cheap WWII sword knife made from the hilt section of a Civil War Cavalry saber. I have quite a few but never knew who made some of them until this year. The ad ran in The Plain Dealer, Cleveland Ohio newspaper, during 1944. If anyone can find anything on C. Lewandowski, U.S.N. I would appreciate it.
mikedon Posted January 23, 2021 Share #18 Posted January 23, 2021 My best group of U.S. WWII knives in 2020, probably best lot I ever won. They all are in excellent condition, some near mint. I wanted the KA-BAR’s but the others turned out really nice also. The first three are blade marked "USMC", 1219C2 KA-BAR’s, early Bonderized blade finish, large letter, and small letter. Fourth knife is a Parkerized blade KA-BAR Commando. Fifth knife is a 7” Kutmaster. Sixth knife is s 6” Kinfolks. Seventh knife is a Cattaraugus 225Q. Eighth knife is a 6” Robeson. The KA-BAR dark Parkerized large letter came in a "USMC Boyt 43" marked sheath. The KA-BAR Bonderized blade finish 1219C2 came in a "Boyt 43" marked sheath. hyrax222 Posted January 25, 2021 Share #20 Posted January 25, 2021 MattS- This may seem common to some, but consider the narrow window in which they were made, 1/1943-3/1943. Then, aprox. 60% of bayonets were lost during war (Cunningham). I logged 27 of these seen on various auction and for sale sites in all of 2020. Compare this with 77 UFH and 20 OL's. Now this one found its way to you! Happy collecting! hyrax222
MattS Posted January 25, 2021 Share #21 Posted January 25, 2021 Thanks for the stats! I guess I was considering that UC was the most prolific maker with 750,000 produced (25.5% of the total per Cunningham), but being dated 1943 does narrow that down considerably. It was behind the counter at a favorite gun shop and I made an offer the owner accepted. I have one other 1943 dated Pal.
