USMarineCorps Posted January 19, 2021 Share #1 Posted January 19, 2021 Hi all, I also posted these under the "can you ID?" section without much success. These appear to be theater made, but I can't find similar examples to compare them to. Does anyone know where and when these would have been made? They have a Japanese made look to them but don't have any markings. All the best, Fred
tredhed2 Posted January 23, 2021 Share #2 Posted January 23, 2021 The posts and vibrant colors, along with the quality of the enamel, are characteristic of Japanese made metal insignia. Now please don’t tell me these two units were stationed in Germany!
USMarineCorps Posted January 25, 2021 Author Share #3 Posted January 25, 2021 Thank you for your input! I thought they were Japanese made for the same reasons you mentioned above. I have yet to see another Japanese made insignia with a screw post like the one you see here. I have seen Japanese made patches of these so they must have been in the area at some point in the 50's or 60's.

Randy Posted December 13, 2021 Share #5 Posted December 13, 2021 The 78th FS was in Hawaii just after the war and inactivated in 46. It then became a unit in USAFE in the UK in 1952, where it stayed to the early 90s. Randy
