Another weighted divers belt

Found this at a flea market with no story attached. 9 of the 10 pockets have a steel weight inside. The belt itself is dated 1942. Plus there is an interesting modification to the buckle that was done without altering the original one.

When I was a kid, I got hold of a few beginners' how-to "skin diving" books, and surplus Cartridge Belts were always recommended for use as weight belts. They said that the "standard military buckle" should be cut off and replaced with a quick-release buckle; looks like the guy who had this one patterned his after the Navy and commercial quick-release. I've got magazine photos of whole groups of guys in the '50s and '60s in dry suits and loaded Ammo Belts, but I can't find 'em- they're around here somewhere.
