WWII 2nd Infantry Division Marked Swivel Loop

For whatever reason over the years I seem to come across 2nd ID helmets pretty regularly and have added 5 from the WWII/Occupation time frame to my collection. This one was the most recent addition, and is probably the roughest condition wise, but is still an honest example from a hard fought division. The pot is a front seam swivel loop, and it shows signs of having been used as a bucket for something based off the remnants that are visible both inside and outside. This one has nothing to ID the GI who wore it, but is a nice variation of the divisional insignia.

Wow and I though I had a lot with my messily one. Fantastic helmet and fantastic collection. Oddly I’ve had a very different experience with second ID helmets... always thought of them as rather rare

I think most would agree with you that originals are not easy to come by, like any unit marked helmet really. The 2nd ID does seem to have less helmets show up compared to some other units, but I also believe that may be related to the unit’s popularity with collectors and the helmets often change hands without ever making it to the open market.
