bobatl Posted January 15, 2021 Share #1 Posted January 15, 2021 After many years of mystery, I discovered that these Bendix 34 X 9 wheels are for a Brewster SB2A. The P-47 used the same size wheel but with a larger brake.
Swifter Posted January 16, 2021 Share #2 Posted January 16, 2021 Interesting find. Just wondering; what is the 34 dimension? The circumference? Brewster had a notorious reputation during WWII and was ultimately shut down.

Brewster had a notorious reputation during WWII and was ultimately shut down. 34 is tire outer diameter, 9 is tire width and if there was a third dash number that would be rim diameter for tire. For example, 12.00 X 5-3 was a tailwheel on early Beech 18 that used a tire 12" OD X 5" wide with a 3" rim diameter. It is common for wheels to be designated by only two of the three available numbers even though it would obviously be a problem if somebody decided to make a tire that had a different third dimension. To say that Brewster had a notorious reputation during WWII is something of an understatement. Their chief engineer, Dayton Brown, became a consultant and his company is still in business.
