dansctbass Posted January 13, 2021 Share #1 Posted January 13, 2021 Howdy.. I acquired this cutlass and with it not being an ames, is it a civil war made cutlass from the south? No markings at all . Any information you guys have would be great. Thank you in advance.
ludwigh1980 Posted January 13, 2021 Share #2 Posted January 13, 2021 Does appear from the pictures to be an original confederate copy of the Ames cutlass complete with a large portion of the scabbard. However further investigation is warranted to establish authenticity. Originals in this condition bring $3-4000. Looks good to me from here. dansctbass Posted January 13, 2021 Author Share #3 Posted January 13, 2021 Thank you that's what I had thought and hoped. Now just to find a home for it. Happy new year
SARGE Posted January 14, 2021 Share #4 Posted January 14, 2021 I agree with ludwigh1980. Notice the dimples in the grip where rivets are found on US examples.
dansctbass Posted January 18, 2021 Author Share #5 Posted January 18, 2021 Thank you as well. If anyone wants to make an offer or guide me to an appropriate area it would be greatly appreciated. I only purchased because of a hunch but it's not in my wheelhouse to keep. Hope I can find it a good home. Thank you
