m1a2u2 Posted January 4, 2021 Share #1 Posted January 4, 2021 I've been doing some reading on forum about late war M1C helmets with OD7 chin straps. I've seen that the strap colors and combinations were all over the place near the end of the war. I came across one that looks odd, in that it has different colored stitching. The stitching that holds it to the loop is very fine and kakhi. The other stitching is OD and frayed on same sides and fine on others. I'm curious if this was a production line method where those that fitted the straps to the helmet had a different thread. Heat stamp. I'd 1189. Let me know what you think. Thanks in advance. shadawg Posted January 4, 2021 Share #2 Posted January 4, 2021 honestly, the stitching on the loop just kinda looks rust stained. looks like there is a slight amount on the strap too. m1c straps can get weird though
m1a2u2 Posted January 4, 2021 Author Share #3 Posted January 4, 2021 Thanks. That makes sense since that it where it rubs against the rim when it is folded up. Is it normal that there is no double stitching near the loop?

Ronnie Posted January 4, 2021 Share #5 Posted January 4, 2021 Chin straps are wrong. These have 10 row stitching and probably came off a 3 Snap Gas Mask Bag. Ronnie

Ronnie Ok forget what I said because you are talking about OD #7 and I believe #7 had 10 row stitching. Ronnie
