Need Help Identify Dog Tag found in Germany

Hello together,

 

this both Dog tags, from the same man was found in the Huertgen Forest near Aachen in a vehicle lane. Unfortunately he can not be found in Nara Archives.

I think this is your guy.  The LA stamped on the dog tags is the abbreviation for the state of Louisiana not the city of Los Angeles.  He was buried in Louisiana and his mother in the below obituary is identified as Lela Taylor Floyd but her actual middle name is Endora and Taylor must be her maiden name.  I think the Army misspelled her first name as Lila on the dog tags but the middle initial of E matches so this is probable the same person.

Bastrop - Louis Elmore Floyd a resident of Bastrop, Louisiana for 38 years stepped into Our Lord's heavenly presence on February 14, 2018 at 8:20 am.

Louis' life perfectly exemplifies the definition of "The Greatest Generation" of which he was a part. Tom Brokaw said this generation of people was, "the greatest generation any society has ever produced. These men and women fought and lived not for fame and recognition, but because it was the 'right thing to do'. "

Louis was born in Gurdon, Arkansas May 10, 1921. His early years were molded by The Great Depression. He graduated from Bonita High School in 1939 an then joined the Civilian Conservation Core where he built, what are now, our state parks in Oregon and Washington State. He enlisted in the U. S. Army where he served in the European Theatre of Operations in WW II. He participated in battles across Europe, including Omaha Beach and the largest land battle ever fought, known as the Battle of the Bulge. He was honorably discharged from service on September 12, 1945, having obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant. Upon returning home, he married Mary Opal Haley who he has devotedly loved and cherished for 73 years through good times and bad, sickness and health. He began a career with Texas Gas Transmission where he faithfully worked for nearly 40 years. Louis was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Bastrop where he dutifully served as a deacon and shepherded many over the years as a Sunday school teacher. Louis never met a stranger and treated every person with kindness, respect, and dignity. Louis' faith, integrity, and good sense of humor made him a role model, mentor, and good friend to those lucky enough to have known him. He helped shape generations of business and community leaders.

He is preceded in death by one son, Louis Craig Floyd; his parents, Emsley Benjamin and Lela Taylor Floyd; four sisters, Thelma Black and husband James; Mary Pruitt and husband Levi; Erma McCarty and husband Jack; Marjorie Bunch and husband George; and one brother, Emsley Benjamin Floyd, Jr. and wife Dera Jane. He leaves behind and will be dearly missed by his wife Mary Opal Haley Floyd; two sons and one daughter, Jeffrey Michael Floyd; Glenn David Floyd and wife Kirby; and Vicki Lynn Guth and husband Bob; and one daughter-in-law, DeAnn Causey Floyd (Craig); 10 grandchildren, Alix Elizabeth Floyd and husband Joe Vladek ; Claire Causey Floyd; Kelly Rachel Floyd and husband Bobby Fields; Bradley Keith Floyd and wife Annie; Caroline Haley Floyd; Celia Dobbs Floyd; Lela Taylor Floyd; and Chance Elizabeth Floyd; and 3 great grandchildren Abbie Rose Floyd; Sawyer Louis Floyd; and Jax Cadeaux Floyd.

Funeral services for Louis E. Floyd are scheduled for Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Cox Funeral Home in Bastrop, Louisiana. Visitation will be from 11 am until 1 pm with the funeral commencing at 1 pm. Internment will be held immediately following at Memorial Park Cemetery North of Bastrop. Pastor Richard Gambill of First Baptist Church, Bastrop will be officiating.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Mike Smith.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Bastrop and the Louisiana Children's Home of Monroe.
