On October 6, 2017 the Commandant of the Coast Guard announced the establishment of the Coast Guard Civilian Service Commendation Medal. It was "established as a means to recognize notable civilian performance at the equivalent level of the Coast Guard Commendation Medal awarded to military personnel for similar achievements." The design of the medal was adapted from the obverse of its military counterpart.

There is a somewhat large and growing field of civilian counterparts to military decorations, and this attractive medal is but one example.CGCM-Obv.jpg.ae7117dba237e024fc008e02ec1fda1d.jpgCGCM-Rev.jpg.29b50d0422c73f2b2626f4ba73f18a2a.jpg
