WWII Army camo covers on M1 helmets

Found this photo in the Army's WWII INFANTRY REPLACEMENT TRAINING CENTER - IRTC - booklet entitled I AM A DOUGHBOY.

 

The camo helmets appear in just these two pages:

Those curved seams standout.  The booklet says this is a light machine gun squad and   in a forum post 12 years a member said, "It's interesting to note that at Ft. Ord they were just issued to light machine gun teams." That must have been a test unit - the writer also noted the camo covers were seen in photos of troops in Florida. The only other camo in the IRTC booklet are helmet nets worn by members of a mortar squad.
