ROCKET Posted September 19, 2021 Share #2 Posted September 19, 2021 The dog tag looks legit. A second hole has been punched into it...likely when they nailed the tag to the wooden cross. The tag looks black which suggests it was tossed into a burn pit along with the other temporary crosses once they moved the bodies to a permanent cemetery. I think this is the first D-Day KIA tag that I've ever seen. Thanks for sharing! John

MathieuBelgique1944 Posted September 19, 2021 Share #4 Posted September 19, 2021 Its a replica tag can be seen by the hole. As you can see the hole doesnt have the 'rolled edge'. I also never saw a found tag to be so black. Ive seen tags with black spots but these were all rusted bad condition tags that didnt show any silver metal color anymore. I know someone with KIA dog tags from Normandy here an example of a original 29th dday kia tag and they all seem to have corrosion from the salty ground in the St Laurent, France area. jason_w Posted September 19, 2021 Share #5 Posted September 19, 2021 The font is not right on the numbers for a ww2 period tag. The chain hole is "rolled" on the back side of ww2 period tags.
