mikie Posted December 13, 2020 Share #1 Posted December 13, 2020 While doing some WWII research, I came up with a question about how an Officer of the Deck earned the qualification. My guess is that candidates were trained aboard the ship they were stationed on and no landside classes were involved. I'll also guess that an officer qualified on a specific ship would need to be requalified if transferred to a different ship. My guesses are based on what googling could dig up, but would appreciate any knowledge or personal experience any of you may care to share. Thanks! hink441 Posted December 22, 2020 Share #2 Posted December 22, 2020 Hi Mikie If an Officer earned the OOD qualification on a certain class of ship it would not normally be allowed on other ships. The Commanding Officer certified his trust in the younger Officer’s abilities. If the younger OOD transferred to another similar ship, then the new CO would require a verification of his abilities before giving the younger Officer the qualification.
