ken88 Posted December 8, 2020 Share #1 Posted December 8, 2020 Hi, I was wondering if there's anything I should do to preserve this blade? The scabbard is a tight fit, I am worried about it leaving scratches or scraping the factory finish off of the blade when the knife is pulled out, not that I will take it out regularly but still, I wanted a knife in good condition and want to preserve the condition as good as I can. Is anyone wrapping things around the blade, or can I just put it in without being worried about scratches etc.? Thanks
gap Posted December 10, 2020 Share #2 Posted December 10, 2020 Just store them separately. Putting the blade in and out of the scabbard will leave marks.

Blacksmith Posted December 11, 2020 Share #4 Posted December 11, 2020 I have a slightly different opinion I guess. Unless you are planning to obsessively and repeatedly slide it in and out of the scabbard, I don’t think it matters. It looks like there are already a fair amount of ‘runner marks’ on the blade, so keeping it in the scabbard doesn’t affect value on it one iota - again, my opinion. It’s spent the last 75+ years together, and seems to be just fine. Keep a light coat of oil on the blade, and you’ll be great. It’s a nice example of a fairly common knife. Just enjoy it.
