vintageproductions Posted December 5, 2020 Share #1 Posted December 5, 2020 Does anyone recognize this patch? It came out of a large WWI patch collection that was auctioned off at first of the year in the high desert area in California. The bullion detail work is amazing. mortaydc60 Posted December 5, 2020 Share #2 Posted December 5, 2020 Possible 20th Div is my first thought Mort
vintageproductions Posted December 5, 2020 Author Share #3 Posted December 5, 2020 I thought that also but Dan Griffin didn't think so, and I trust him a lot when it comes to WWI patches
mortaydc60 Posted December 5, 2020 Share #4 Posted December 5, 2020 Agree Dan is tops in field, but why not his reason for not thinking it was 20th. Maybe thinks it is related to German mine field outfit? Mort
6th.MG.BN Posted December 5, 2020 Share #5 Posted December 5, 2020 Sure looks like the 20th. It doesn't look like German construction. Ken
manayunkman Posted December 5, 2020 Share #6 Posted December 5, 2020 It could be fraternal as this symbol was used and embroidered.
Eric Queen Posted December 5, 2020 Share #7 Posted December 5, 2020 Anything is possible but every 20th DIV patch I have ever seen had "20" on it.
Tonomachi Posted December 5, 2020 Share #8 Posted December 5, 2020 Could it be a WW1 Russian Tsarist Shock Battalion Death Head insignia of some kind (see photos)?

Eric is right that the 20th should have "20" on it now that I think of it. Ken
vintageproductions Posted December 6, 2020 Author Share #11 Posted December 6, 2020 I agree the 20th should have the numbers but how many WWI patches have we seen that should have numbers and don't, and how many that don't have numbers but some variants have numbers? Bill Scott Posted December 6, 2020 Share #12 Posted December 6, 2020 I also think it's fraternal living in Milwaukee we had Knights of this Knights of that and 80% of them used Skulls in their organizations insignia.
