tdurbinmas Posted December 2, 2020 Share #2 Posted December 2, 2020 I have a couple similar USNR guidons, made just the same way all appliquéd. I'll try to find them to photograph

tdurbinmas Posted December 2, 2020 Share #4 Posted December 2, 2020 You'll see the USNR guidons in the first two pix. I put up several of my guidons for the forum members to see. I never really intended to start collecting guidons, but now that I have almost 200 I think that ship has sailed. I really enjoy researching the history of as many of the units as I can find. It is interesting how guidons have developed over the history of the military, especially the Army. The standard size for an army guidon today is 22' x 27.75". World War One era guidons were around 24" x 42", I've been able to snag a handful of this size with examples in both silk and wool versions. Then I just bought a very interesting QM made blue infantry guidon with a turn of the century PQMD label measuring a huge 50" x 60" Does anyone know much about early 1900 period )and before) guidons? I had no idea they came this large, but I could see the usefulness in large flags before the era of modern communications on the battlefield.
