RVN 5th District Painted Helmet

It’s hard to give opinions on just these two pictures.  I see some things I like and don’t like.

That color brown looks comparable with known good helmets of the period.

On the other hand, the overall helmet looks scrubbed / has what looks like unnatural wear in my opinion.

Seems like a lot of the controversy on USMF starts when opinions on value start flowing - particularly on helmets.

My opinion = I don’t see $1000 here.  Rarity is certainly a consideration, but so is condition.

More pictures would help.

Hasn't this helmet either been shown here before or on WAF?

This is at least the 3rd CSQG Saigon 5th district helmet in a collection, along with at least one more surviving one that is probably in a collection by now.

Have any pictures of real ones? I've been looking but can't find any.

I have to agree with you on the odd look of the wear and age on this helmet.  Based on just those pictures I sure don't get that good feeling I like to start with when I first lay eyes on a painted helmet (Of any kind).  Especially the bottom of the "5" looks really odd.

USMF Member Eugen owns this one which he shared on USMF: https://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/182661-biệt-đoàn-5-csdc/ (the speculation that this is a CSDC BD5 helmet is false, it belongs to a CSGQ  rapid reaction force of Saigon's 5th district. I know he also shared this on WAF but I can't find it at the moment. Before he got it this was listed on vietnam-militaria.com for $800

These three were taken by photojournalist Eddie Adams in Cho Lon on May 31st 1968. They also show the CSQG rapid reaction force of Saigon's 6th District which together with the 5th make up Cho Lon.

Here is a map of Saigon made some time after June 1973 showing the districts. Unfortunately I don't know who originally shared it so I can't credit them.
