By the end of June 1944 the squadron had one PBJ-1D, fourteen PBJ-1Hs and one PBJ-1J. Over the course of training and attrition, by the end of the year it had one PBJ-1D, six PBJ-1H and one PBJ-1J. The squadron was redesignated Marine Torpedo Bomber Squadron Six Hundred Twenty One (VMTB-621) on 3 January 1945 and re-equipped with Eastern Aircraft TBM-3E Avengers.
