rtd_sf_eng Posted November 22, 2020 Share #1 Posted November 22, 2020 In the late 70s and early 80s I either was given or picked up USAAF subdued patches that belonged to WWII veterans and had to changed from color to subdued patches to be worn on the duty uniform. But around 1978 I had a chance to purchase a small collection of patches including pocket patches. In the collection was a subdued SCARWAF patch and I have not seen another since. Since it was made on request by the veteran, I classified the patch as 'C' for ASMIC insignias. Comments? Larry

rtd_sf_eng Posted November 26, 2020 Author Share #3 Posted November 26, 2020 I figure around 1964-66 time frame when soldiers in Vietnam started wearing the subdued patches and guys from WWII and the Korea War began to have their combat patch made into subdued if they were assigned to Vietnam. Thanks.
Polski303 Posted November 26, 2020 Share #4 Posted November 26, 2020 Likewise many Vietnam patches were made in DCU camo for those of us that served both in Vietnam and later conflicts in Iraq or Afghanistan.

Thanks. I can verify that. This patch looks to have been made locally in Vietnam. gwb123 Posted November 28, 2020 Share #6 Posted November 28, 2020 Here is one of my all time favorite jungle fatigue shirts that I pulled from the bottom of a pile of clothing at a swap meet in Hawaii. Note the local made, subdued 40th Infantry division patch on the right shoulder. It could have signified service in either WWII or Korea.
