BILL THE PATCH Posted November 19, 2020 Share #1 Posted November 19, 2020 Came across this on eBay, seller states it real. Yeah a real fake. Already has bids, it's just awful to look at. Sorry can't post the link from phone, if anyone wants to feel free Sent from my moto g(7) play using Tapatalk

Persian Gulf Command Posted November 19, 2020 Share #4 Posted November 19, 2020 I can't wait until the Camo examples are going to come from this guy. It may redefine what "Disruption Camouflage" looks like.

Nickman983 Posted November 19, 2020 Share #6 Posted November 19, 2020 I can't believe someone bid on it. I hope it's someone just buying it for the sum of the parts but even then I question if it's worth the money and the effort https://www.ebay.com/itm/Original-US-Army-Medic-Helmet-with-Chinstrap-and-Liner-in-good-condition/224228458464?hash=item34350ebfe0:g:IqQAAOSw9Q9fqaWm
6th.MG.BN Posted November 19, 2020 Share #7 Posted November 19, 2020 I don't know why everyone is so upset? Auction states its original. Haha Ken

Burning Hazard Posted November 20, 2020 Share #10 Posted November 20, 2020 Haha Looks like it was painted with water color paint; if you want to strip it then just wear it in the rain.... Pat
MattS Posted November 20, 2020 Share #11 Posted November 20, 2020 Disregarding the awful paint, it's a 1960-73 shell with a minty P55 (1955-63) liner. Would make a nice Vietnam lid with a Mitchell cover over it.

I was going to say that. It looks like water based tempra or school poster paint.
6th.MG.BN Posted November 20, 2020 Share #14 Posted November 20, 2020 As a wise man once told me, "uglier than a bag full of A-holes". Still makes me laugh. Ken
JasonT Posted November 20, 2020 Share #15 Posted November 20, 2020 There is no one who can possible look at that paint job and believe it is original. I think it is as MattS suggests - someone bidding on it looking to buy a shell/liner set on the cheap, and then adding a Vietnam cover to it for a display
MattS Posted November 22, 2020 Share #16 Posted November 22, 2020 Don’t hate on me, but I won it for $43.95 with free shipping (from CA even!). I can’t hurt the originality so I’m going to try washing the ugly paint off. If that doesn’t work, I have helmet covers!

MattS Posted December 3, 2020 Share #20 Posted December 3, 2020 Got this helmet today and have a few observations. The paint is not as bright as pictured but does appear to be fake and artificially aged. Under it is original dark green over a silica texture. Also the straps are installed backwards on the loops so that the hook and buckle face inward. The inside of the shell and the outside of the liner are painted a medium blue with a large brush. So obviously reworked, now I have to decide what to do with it.
Brian Keith Posted December 3, 2020 Share #21 Posted December 3, 2020 Looks like a WW II nape strap. Save that for a WW II helmrt, flip the strapes correctly, toss on a mitchel cover and sell it to a VN reenactor. Good for the price. BKW
