Schlueter M1, Korean War, restoration needed?

Goodday,,

I have recently found a Schlueter M1 overhere in Holland. I was told that the helmet has been worn by a Dutch officer during the Korean War.

After some research it seems that the shell and liner are quite early WW2. The shell has heatstamp 275A (S). It has been repainted. In a few spots one can still see the original ww2 olivedrab green . Also parts of the corking can still be seen. The Westinghouse liner's headband and nape are from oct.. "43 ( or a little later) The A-washers seem to be from around the same date.

The leather chinstrap looks very old, however looking at the color of the leather it must be post-war (?) No markings found. The shell chinstraps:black/steel flat-buckle.

The shell seems to have some light damage from a pellet-size hits. The wear on the eyelet and on the corresponding location on the inside of the shell seem to indicate that both pieces have been together for quite some time. Hard to decypher name and ASN number are to be found on the shell's chinstrap and on the liner's nape (…..4036 ? ) Also a clue that it must be a "matching"pair.

So it turned out to be an interesting find.

I do have some of questions:

What date is the liner's chinstrap?

Can the shell be restored to ww2 condition? (Meaning: can the repaint be removed?)  Shoul this be considered?

Who is the maker of the nape/neck-band?

If you have any thoughts, information, suggestions, please let me know. Always happy to learn.

thanks for looking.Schl

+1.  Nothing you can do to make it “original” again, whatever that means. As it is, it’s likely as-worn in Korea.  Strip it and repaint it, and it is as-worn nowhere.

My general sentiment when folks post “should I restore” topics is no.  This is no exception.

I actually like how it looks.  Nice helmet.
