USMC Banana Wars Packs

Starting with the M1885 Haversack. I've identified the Marine named on it who apparently served in the Philippines. The marking on the inside flap indicates it was made at Watervliet Arsenal in NY. Today, the arsenal makes cannon barrels for the US Government.

Next up is the USMC blanket bag (left) and the haversack (right), similar to the Army ones but the Army M1885 was slightly smaller. USMC haversack meat can pouch is closed by a leather thong, unlike the Army one. Both were made at Philadelphia Depot as marked on inside of the flap.

I've seen both of these given M1908 as an identifier but earliest known was made in 1911 until 1915.

Very nice, are those your packs/haversack?  I would think those are rather uncommon packs to find?

Thank you! Yes they are mine and took a long while to find. I do need some leather straps for the blanket bag though.

Man, those are really nice!!! I wonder how many of them survived...

Thanks! I don't think many. I heard the Marines wore them until they fell apart.
