Nickman983 Posted November 13, 2020 Share #1 Posted November 13, 2020 I just received this helmet in the mail and was wondering if I someone could help me pin down what they mean. The helmet is a FS SB Schlueter with a WWII Westinghouse liner. Unless the liner and shell were stored separate from each other, I don't really believe they were originally a set. I believe they were likely paired together at some point but I don't know for sure. The liner has a post war leather chinstrap but, given the condition of the inside of the liner, my assumption is that it was added more recently. It came from a seller based in Hawaii which is part of the reason why I believe these markings might be navy. The shell is marked SUP-3 on the rear while the liner is marked ART 6. My assumption is that these relate to stations but I don't know enough to be certain. I'm also wondering if anyone has a guess as to what the age of the markings is. I'm guessing post WWII but I don't know for sure. I also noticed that there is a stamping on the brim of the helmet. I know some m1 clones have stampings on the brims, however this is 100% a US manufactured helmet. Anyone have any ideas on why this may have been done? Nickman983 Posted November 13, 2020 Author Share #3 Posted November 13, 2020 Here's the stamping on the brim I mentioned. It reads 7016. This is preceded by what appears to be two unsuccessful attempts to stamp the 7. It's very hard to see, but there is a lot number on the helmet but I can only make out "55". Even more difficult to see is the Schlueter S. Not sure how it shows up in the pictures but in hand you can just barely make it out. Has anyone seen something like this done before? Nickman983 Posted November 27, 2022 Author Share #5 Posted November 27, 2022 Just a FYI in case anyone runs into this helmet being sold in the future: I sold this one on eBay recently and the buyer proceeded to take a hammer to the rim of the helmet to "fix" some perceived damage on it. I haven't seen the after photos but be aware it's been messed with now.

Nickman983 Posted November 29, 2022 Author Share #7 Posted November 29, 2022 Yea, it's a shame. Unfortunately I didn't find out until after it was "fixed". Just wanted to put it out there in case this one comes up for sale in the future so that a future potential buyer might be able be aware.

I see negligible dents, but that’s it.

Yea, it's sill. This is the area that the buyer took issue with. I honestly never noticed it because if you collect enough helmets you'll see this type of thing often enough. But the buyer thought I was hiding damage because it gets covered by the liner chinstrap when over the brim of the helmet. These are of a different helmet in my collection but the dent in the rim had to have been less severe than the dent on this helmet
