TCSchultz Posted November 13, 2020 Share #1 Posted November 13, 2020 This DI came with a grouping for an Army Air Forces member who served stateside but I can't find it anywhere so hopefully it will be an easy layup for someone to ID for me. No maker marks but is marked STERLING and is pinback. More blue then black on the enamel which photographed darker then it is. Thanks in advance! Ray42 Posted November 13, 2020 Share #2 Posted November 13, 2020 You basically ID'ed it yourself. It is an Army Air Force OCS DI.
tredhed2 Posted November 13, 2020 Share #3 Posted November 13, 2020 AAF was an element of the US Army in WW 2. Additionally, AJ 1962 Trading Post IDs this as Air Force OCS, thus placing it 1947 or later. Still, a rare piece.
TCSchultz Posted November 14, 2020 Author Share #4 Posted November 14, 2020 Thanks and I figured as much, not sure why this would have been with a WW2 grouping if it's post war Air Force but who knows, things get mixed together all the time! Allan H. Posted November 19, 2020 Share #5 Posted November 19, 2020 It is odd to see a piece like this made in sterling post war. Is it possible it was an AAF piece before being re-designated? Allan
B-17Guy Posted November 20, 2020 Share #6 Posted November 20, 2020 According to Massaro, he states that it was used during the war years when AAF OCS was located in Miami, FL. Marked Sterling, but made by Robbins. John
