themick Posted November 7, 2020 Share #1 Posted November 7, 2020 In my Dad's service record is a reference to a Letter of Commendation for action on the afternoon of 26. June, 1944, Guadalcanal, from the Commanding General, Marine Aircraft, Headquarters Squadron, FMF. The letter itself is not there. My Dad was a USMC Warrant Office (Aviation Supply) at the time. The family rumor was that there was an ammo dump explosion then. My Dad's hearing was a bit damaged from it, so it is said. So, this is long after the fighting on the island was over. I can't find any reference to what happened then. Do any of you Guadalcanal experts have any idea? Thanks!! Steve
