Centurion1982 Posted November 1, 2020 Share #1 Posted November 1, 2020 Hi, Does anyone know why this metal ring was inserted to the top of the inside of this M1917 helmet? Is this seen more often? Thanks, Marcel
daskrieg Posted November 1, 2020 Share #2 Posted November 1, 2020 I thought the rings were rubber in British helmets
aznation Posted November 2, 2020 Share #3 Posted November 2, 2020 They were rubber rings and were solely to act as a cushion between the helmet and the skull of the wearer.

Thats correct. Matt is absolutely correct. You usually find them now, Hard as a rock. Like metal. But its hardened rubber. I'd say its rare that its still in there. Mostly they are missing. Unless its been left alone for a hundred years. Looks like yours has been not messed with. Nice !
