tigerfan Posted January 22, 2009 #1 Posted January 22, 2009 I have come across variations of the WWII Navy V-5 patch but not this one. It is larger than the overseas style cap patch (pictured next to it) and embroidered on twill. Does anyone know if this is a shoulder patch or some sort of pocket patch?
tredhed2 Posted January 23, 2009 #2 Posted January 23, 2009 The only info of which I am aware, Smith and Pelz book, indicates that the one on the left was worn on the garrison caps. I don't collect Navy, so have no personal knowledge that differs.
Patchhouse2 Posted January 23, 2009 #3 Posted January 23, 2009 I have never seen documentation that the V-5 patch was worn as an SSI. As Dave mentions it was worn on the garrison cap. Could it be a sweetheart type insignia or for unoffical wear on other insignia. This is the first style I have seen. As you mention, there are other styles. I have another that is on a round twill disk. Overall size is slightly larger than the one shown on the left. Nice piece.
topdcnut Posted January 23, 2009 #4 Posted January 23, 2009 THere is an earlier post that shows a variety of sizes and styles on overseas caps.
