Col. Stopford and a Long Line of Service.

Frederick Stopford was born in Massachusetts in 1872 the son of a English born career military officer for the US Army and later General William Stopford. He enlisted at an early age in his father’s footsteps, serving in Cuba at the end of the Spanish American War seeing no combat then serving with the 42nd USV as a captain, going to the Philippines and arriving in Manila Dec 31 1899 and serving there until arriving back in San Francisco in June 1901 during that time his unit did see action. Stopford career wasn’t over yet as he served in WWI as well as commanding officer of the 80th Field Artillery Battalion. 
 

I have not determined yet which action he was wounded in yet. Regardless he had quite the career in the many years of service he gave. I am on the look out for his missing medals as well, they are #1654 Spanish War Service. #312 Cuban Occupation. #1115 Philippine Campaign.

Miracle find on eBay of all places from a militaria dealer out of Tennessee. One of Colonel Stopfords missing medals. PH came from an old collection out of Florida several years ago so was very excited to reunite a medal ID’d to him. Who knows how long ago they were split apart with Stopford passing in 1955.

Turns out this is a MSCC Award.

Maybe, if a modern copy of the WW1 Victory Medal is added . It could also be marked as a modern replacement to avoid the inevitability of the collector-added medal being magically transformed into an originally issued medal in the future.
