Old Marine Posted October 29, 2020 Share #1 Posted October 29, 2020 I recently read “Helmet for my pillow” by Robert Leckie. In the book, He mentions encountering the saltwater crocodiles that inhabited the Inlets and creeks on Guadalcanal. The Ilu (Tenaru) river was nicknamed Alligator Creek by the Marines. I am currently reading “Leyte 1944” by Nathan N. Prefer and he too mentions encounters with crocodiles in the Philippine jungle. In the South Pacific sometimes the environment was a dangerous and as difficult to deal with as the enemy. So, here is a little figure vignette of a unwary point man not seeing the crocodile lying in wait. The crocodile is from an old Tamiya kit. The figures are just bashed together from the spares box. The bamboo and grass is from JTT scenics. The water is Liquitex gel paste. Anyway, it was a good way to pass the time while staying hunkered down. If you need to kill some time, here are a bunch of photos to look over to pass the time. The real time consuming part of this was making the water and terrain. Making and painting the figures and crocodile was the easiest part of this project. As always thanks for letting me post these figures here. Old Marine Posted October 29, 2020 Author Share #2 Posted October 29, 2020 Some progress and reference photos. This all started with poking around and positioning some Airfix multipose legs with the croc figure.

ArtyScout Posted October 30, 2020 Share #13 Posted October 30, 2020 I was just saying to myself that Dennis has been kind of quiet. He must be working on his next masterpiece; and I was right. Awesome, awesome, awesome. Great little dio and the action puts you on the edge of your seat. Your figure kitbashing is unsurpassed; and I truly like that crocodile. Also fantastic work on the water. Your integration of the vegetation is superb. Truly another piece. Semper Fi. Manny

ArtyScout Posted November 23, 2020 Share #20 Posted November 23, 2020 I have to admit that whether it has the color background look or the sepia one; you really know how to bring out that south Pacific look. Whether its on Guadalcanal or Tarawa. Semper Fi. Manny
