Hello All,

I have been seeing some helmets with officer rank attached to the helmets.

I see some say soldered, But the helmet is steel.

So how did they do it with out damaging the finish on the rank?

I think often a hole would be drilled into the helmet and the rank insignia attached like that. Obviously not every time and it was a case by case basis.

I have a helmet that had a full bird colonel insignia attached with horsehide glue.  The insignia had long since fallen off but the glue and outline of eagle was still visible.

Thanks Marty,

It was the helmet that Patches posted that broke the camels back and I had to ask.

I've done metal work. I know the heat required to braze and silver solder ,but the rank always retains its Silver/Gold finish.

Do they Heatsink the rank??

Not having an example to study I thought I would ask the expert here,

To hear some were glued is also an interesting method.
