AirMechanic Posted October 24, 2020 Share #1 Posted October 24, 2020 I picked this up recently from the estate of a WWII-Vietnam USAF veteran. I have never seen a jacket like this before, and if it didn’t have the remnants of what looks like a military clothing tag in the neck area, I would have thought it was a civilian jacket. This lightweight jacket has a zip up front with two breast pockets with small zippers and two lower slash pockets. The lining is a very dark blue color with the exterior being a light blue color very similar to denim (the photos make it look lighter in color than it is). The sleeves have dark blue knit cuffs. Can anyone tell me what the military nomenclature is for this jacket and when it dates from? A picture of a similar jacket would be helpful too. Any help is appreciated! AirMechanic Posted October 24, 2020 Author Share #3 Posted October 24, 2020 Thanks! I had not thought of that, but you are right. It is a US Navy deck/utility jacket.
RustyCanteen Posted October 25, 2020 Share #4 Posted October 25, 2020 Yes, a post-1981 US Navy utility jacket. The original version of this was adopted in the early 1970s, but in a much darker navy blue. The color after the enlisted dungarees were brought back.
