AirMechanic Posted October 23, 2020 Share #1 Posted October 23, 2020 I believe this is a 2nd Bomb Group DUI, but the ones I’ve typically seen have nothing above the top edge of the shield. Can anyone tell me when this style of unit insignia was used? Any help is appreciated!
tredhed2 Posted October 24, 2020 Share #2 Posted October 24, 2020 Probably early post-war (45-46) UA (addition of crest)
AirMechanic Posted October 24, 2020 Author Share #3 Posted October 24, 2020 Thanks for the info. What does UA mean? Also, I really haven’t seen this version of this unit insignia before. Is it a desirable version because it is probably uncommon, or is it less desirable because it is probably post-WWII?
KurtA Posted October 24, 2020 Share #4 Posted October 24, 2020 As are all variations of this unit's DUI's, it's common. When it comes to true DUI collector's, they aren't so fixated on "wartime vs. post war" as being the primary measure of desirability (unlike field gear, uniform and helmet collectors). tredhed2 Posted October 24, 2020 Share #5 Posted October 24, 2020 UA = unauthorized - not approved by The Office of the Quartermaster General (now designs & samples approved by The Institute of Heraldry - TIOH)
