Matt-M Posted October 23, 2020 Share #1 Posted October 23, 2020 Recent find. Anyone else have a gilt silver bronze version?
cwnorma Posted October 23, 2020 Share #2 Posted October 23, 2020 Is it gilt? It looks silver colored in the photos. Chris
Matt-M Posted October 23, 2020 Author Share #3 Posted October 23, 2020 My apologies, silver wash over Bronze. My coffee hasn't kicked in yet.
rustywings Posted October 23, 2020 Share #4 Posted October 23, 2020 Wow Matt! What a handsome Airship variation! Link Co. made a number of bronze-base with silver wash Airship Pilot badge variations... but I don’t believe they ever bothered to stamp theirs with a “Bronze” mark. Your BB&B Bronze marked example is a first for me and a delight to see! Thank you for sharing your hallmark images. May we have a peek at the front design? Matt-M Posted October 23, 2020 Author Share #5 Posted October 23, 2020 My pleasure. Forgive me as I was half asleep when I took these photos a few days ago. I will get some better photos of the wing from all angles tonight and post them.
5thwingmarty Posted October 23, 2020 Share #6 Posted October 23, 2020 Congratulations, that looks like a great wing (at least as much as you have shown). I have always assumed the "BB&B Bronze" wings were silver wash over a bronze base, but have also wondered if the Bronze marked items might have been a more economical line of insignia from BB&B. The couple of BB&B catalogs I have offer items as being bronze, sterling silver, rolled gold, gilt finish, 10kt gold, 14kt gold, silver gilt and bronze gilt. I don't see any insignia that indicates a silver wash on bronze. Marty

Matt-M Posted October 24, 2020 Author Share #10 Posted October 24, 2020 Hopefully these new photos are satisfactory. Tried to get as much detail as possible and to show the crisp detail of the die stamping and striations created by the stretching of the metal when pressed through the die.
