Panzerfaust Posted October 22, 2020 #1 Posted October 22, 2020 Sorry to bombard with posts, but I was wondering if this was a US WWII Medic's Web Belt With Pouches? British Made?
Browninggunner688 Posted October 23, 2020 #2 Posted October 23, 2020 According to the excellent book Doughboy to GI, on page 182, there is a picture of this belt and a caption stating that it's of a style of manufacture post 1917, and that it was for the M1917 Springfield rifle adaptation, the belt held 2 20 round magazines one in each big pocket and each little pocket held two 5 round clips. It also states of unknown manufacture and date. I would suspect this is an original belt based on this information and with the stamping looking like it was Sharpie marker and a modern stencil. Perhaps a nice original belt ruined by someone trying to make more money. Nick.
Browninggunner688 Posted October 23, 2020 #3 Posted October 23, 2020 Oh, not British made by the way, I forgot to mention that. Nick.
Panzerfaust Posted October 23, 2020 Author #4 Posted October 23, 2020 Thank you for the information. What kind of value can one put on this belt? The reason I said it might be British made is the webbing looks very close. Maybe the marking is 1945 reissue?
robinb Posted October 23, 2020 #5 Posted October 23, 2020 This belt has been discussed before, long ago, and was determined to be not a US military item of issue. But I don't recall what it was for.
Browninggunner688 Posted October 23, 2020 #6 Posted October 23, 2020 No, the marking is way too fresh, I have never seen a font like this or heard or have ever seen this maker on any item of field gear. It definitely looks like a modern stencil to me. Value, no idea, I have never seen a belt like this other than in the mentioned book. Experimental, maybe, but definitely not issued I would say. I could be wrong. Nick.
